The Rocket, Euston Road, NW1

This place is named after Stephenson’s Rocket, one of the earliest steam locomotives ever invented. It was presumably called the rocket because at the time it seemed impossibly fast, but its top speed was actually only 28mph which isn’t even enough to get you three points in a residential area. Which just shows that everyone from the 19th Century was a massive pussy.

Ok, I’m not 100% sure that this pub is named after Stephenson’s Rocket, but it’s near a train station so it’s not a bad assumption, and anyway I wanted an excuse to call an entire century of people pussies.

That fact that I might have made up is one of the most interesting things about this pub. It’s pretty generic really, feels like pubs that you’ll have been to up and down the country, some of which will have been Wetherspoons (The Rocket isn’t though).

Having said all that, though, it’s cheap and cheerful, they have plenty of big screens showing sports, serve reasonably priced food (we can’t comment on the quality) and it will certainly do a job if you’re in the area and fancy a quick, no nonsense pint. There’s a decent selection of beers (we went for a Punk IPA) and it’s usually busy but big enough that you shouldn’t have a problem getting a seat.

Do they do food? Yes, standard pub grub.
Are they in the 21st Century? No minimum spend.
Are there dogs? Seems dog friendly.
I want to smoke: Street.
Televisions? Plenty.
